Notes for Sylvanus NEWTON

Per Morgan County Cemetery book, born 10-4-176_

Per Walker's "Stockport" book, page 62:
"Sylvanus (and Elizabeth) moved from New York to the blockhouse at Marietta
about 1802. In 1812 they moved to the Doug Ervin farm north of Stockport. The
journey from Marietta waws made by means of a yoke of oxen and one horse. All
the family who were large enough walked from Marietta. Gideon, then eight
years old, walked and led a hog. Sylvanus died in 1836, but his son, Gideon
(1804-1878), who was born at the blockhouse in Marietta, continued to farm the
site and raise his family."
